Balcony Design on a Budget

California has the most beautiful weather, and an outdoor space becomes a popular place to have a drink and unwind. Admittedly, our patio went neglected when we first moved in, and I was waiting for Spring weather to inspire me. One thing I knew was that I was on a tight budget. With everything happening in the world, it didn’t feel right to spend a ton of money on patio furniture. I set out to decorate our balcony for under $150.

The first thing I researched was what stores were having outdoor sales. World Market and Target both have some pretty great deals at the moment. But you would be surprised how fast $150 goes. I had to let go of the ideas I was set on for the design, and start picking more cost effective items. The ikat rug was actually my biggest save, for only $12. It is technically a beach mat, but the waterproof material could stand up to daily use. I like to mix patterns, so I thought the pillows were a good contrast to the rug. They were $12 each at Target. That was the easy part! Finding furniture I liked and making some compromises took a little more time…

I originally had my eye on the cutest French bistro set, but even on sale it ate up my entire budget. When I was shopping for terra cotta pots (classic and budget friendly!) at Lowe’s, I came across these tan sling patio chairs. At only $20 each, I was sold. I knew the patterns on the pillows and rug would help dress them up. There are a plethora of cute outdoor side tables, and I decided a fun mosaic in a cool gray color, would create the perfect balance.

Don’t be discouraged by a small budget! You might end up creating one of your favorite spaces.
